“During England’s challenging World Cup 2023 journey, former captain Nasser Hussain identified three standout moments for the team. The tournament proved to be a struggle for England, as they were unable to defend their world champion title and faced difficulties securing a spot in the top 8 for qualification in the Champions Trophy 2025.

As England geared up for their final league phase match against Pakistan in Kolkata, Nasser Hussain shared his perspectives on the team’s top three moments in the competition.

The initial noteworthy moment he highlighted was Dawid Malan’s exceptional century against Bangladesh in Dharamsala. Malan’s impressive 140 off 107 balls in England’s second game stood out amidst a series of losses in the early stages of the tournament.

“I’ll start with Dawid Malan and his magnificent 140 in Dharamsala. I thought he played brilliantly,” commented Nasser Hussain to ICC.

The second memorable moment, as per Hussain, occurred when David Willey dismissed Virat Kohli for a duck in their match in Lucknow. Willey’s strategic bowling led to Kohli chipping to mid-off, leaving the Lucknow crowd in stunned silence.

“My second one is from Lucknow when David Willey got Virat Kohli out for a duck. The silence around Lucknow when he chipped it to mid-off and walked off was a special moment,” Hussain recalled.

The third moment chosen by Hussain was Ben Stokes’ century – his maiden ODI World Cup ton – against the Netherlands in Pune.

“Ben Stokes here in Pune, a brilliant hundred in what will be his last 50-overs World Cup, we think. To get his first World Cup hundred, and the way he played was quite brilliant,” concluded Hussain.
