Suryakumar Yadav, India’s interim T20I captain, expressed admiration for Rohit Sharma’s exceptional batting and leadership displayed during the recently concluded World Cup 2023.

Rohit emerged as the second-highest run-scorer in the tournament, accumulating an impressive 597 runs at an average of 54, featuring one century and three half-centuries. Beyond the statistics, his overall strike rate of 125 and notable performances in the powerplay have become key talking points.

Suryakumar Yadav, who is set to lead India’s T20I team against Australia, lauded Rohit for executing the game plan precisely as discussed in the dressing room. SKY commended Rohit Sharma for leading by example, showcasing selfless hitting in the powerplay by fearlessly taking on bowlers and placing less emphasis on preserving his wicket.

“Rohit Sharma led by example in this World Cup. What he has done in this WC was completely different. He literally walked the talk, what was spoken in team meetings, he did that on the ground. As a leader, He led by example,” expressed Suryakumar Yadav in Vizag on Wednesday.

During the World Cup, Rohit Sharma scored an impressive 401 runs in the first powerplay at a striking rate of 135.

Looking ahead to his inaugural series as captain, Suryakumar shared the message he conveyed to the young players in the squad. He emphasized the importance of playing selflessly, a philosophy he embodies in his own batting and mindset.

“When I met the squad in the afternoon today, I told them to be very selfless when you go into the field. Because I’m a guy who doesn’t think too much about personal milestones but instead thinks of a team’s goal. And I’ve always told them that you have to keep the team first,” said Suryakumar.

Regarding the World Cup final loss, when asked about how he is coping, SKY acknowledged that the pain of the heartbreak will linger for some time. “World Cup loss will take time to heal,” admitted Suryakumar.
