Trone Kane’s impressive fifty led Munster Reds to a comfortable seven-wicket triumph over a disappointing Leinster Lightning at The Mardyke.

Kane showcased his batting prowess by amassing a notable 71 runs, comprising nine boundaries and two well-executed sixes. His partnership with Alistair Frost was a standout feature of the match, as the duo crafted a substantial 118-run partnership for the third wicket.

In the absence of Ben White, the Reds handed a debut to Byron McDonough, while the Lightning introduced Sean McNicholl for his first appearance.

Despite their relative inexperience, the Leinster Lightning managed to post a total of 137 runs – their second-lowest in an Inter-Provincial match, only slightly exceeding their previous record of 135. Noteworthy performances included Gavin Hoey’s 37, Séamus Lynch’s 31, and David Delany’s 19, with the latter being dismissed lbw by his cousin Gareth. Josh Manley shone for the Reds with the ball, securing an impressive 4-30. Had it not been for Kane’s exceptional batting display, Manley might have been a contender for the Player of the Match award.

In response to the Lightning’s total, the Reds faced an early setback with the dismissals of Commins and Matt Ford. However, the combination of Kane and Frost quickly shifted the momentum in their favor.

Although Kane’s departure, courtesy of a Hoey delivery, might have been disappointing, the Reds had already established their dominance, eventually clinching a convincing seven-wicket victory.

Sean McNicholl made a promising start to his debut by claiming the wicket of Ford, finishing with figures of 1-4.
