Pakistan Captain Babar Azam’s Unfortunate Run in First ODI Against Afghanistan

In the recently concluded inaugural One Day International (ODI) match of the 3-match series against Afghanistan on Tuesday (August 22), Pakistan’s captain, Babar Azam, encountered a forgettable performance.

Babar Azam Registers 16th International Duck Taking the crease at the number 3 position following the early dismissal of Fakhar Zaman, Babar Azam found himself in a tricky situation as he was trapped LBW by Mujeeb Ur Rahman for a duck after facing just 3 deliveries. In the opening over, Azam confidently drove the first ball towards mid-off. However, his connection with the subsequent ball was amiss, causing it to roll towards mid-on. In the second over, Mujeeb Ur Rahman bowled to Imam-ul-Haq, who managed to negotiate the first four deliveries before flicking the fifth to rotate the strike.

Subsequently, Mujeeb pitched the ball on the off-stump. Babar Azam moved forward for a defensive shot but misjudged the line entirely, resulting in the ball striking his front pad and leading to a leg-before-wicket decision.

This marks the 16th instance in Babar Azam’s international career where he has been dismissed without scoring, a colloquial term known as “being out for a duck.”

Interestingly, each time Babar Azam delivers an exceptional batting performance, his fans are quick to draw parallels with some of cricket’s most celebrated batsmen. However, on this occasion, as he fell for a duck, social media platforms buzzed with trolls and memes directed at him. Some took the opportunity to point out that even though Virat Kohli has been experiencing a form slump, he managed to secure a century against Afghanistan, whereas Babar Azam suffered a duck.
