The Asian Games are scheduled to take place in Hangzhou, China, spanning from September 23 to October 8. Leading the Indian side for this prestigious event is Ruturaj Gaikwad. It’s worth noting that the primary Indian cricket team will soon be engaged in the ICC World Cup 2023, which is slated to occur from October 5 to November 19 in India.

As the Asian Games draw near, the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) has made a significant decision. In an effort to maintain a strong backup for the impending ICC World Cup, Tilak Varma has been withdrawn from the Asian Games squad.

Regrettably, the Asian Games squad has been hit by another setback. Pacer Shivam Mavi sustained an injury just a few days ago, rendering him unable to participate in the tournament. The precise nature of Mavi’s injury has not been disclosed.

To address this development, the BCCI’s senior selection committee will be tasked with choosing Mavi’s replacement in the coming days. Initially, Yash Thakur, one of the standby players, was considered for the role. However, recent reports from The Indian Express suggest that Thakur has also suffered a back injury. Consequently, it is highly likely that Umran Malik will be named as Mavi’s replacement.

Notably, the Indian team will not include reserve players when they travel to the Asian Games, in adherence to the strict guidelines followed by the Indian contingent at the Games Village. Instead, team members will undergo a comprehensive two-week training camp in Bangalore, which will be meticulously overseen by the National Cricket Academy (NCA).
