On November 29, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officially declared the extension of Rahul Dravid’s tenure as the head coach of the Indian cricket team, alongside his support staff. This extension is confirmed until at least the T20 World Cup in 2024, which is scheduled to take place in the West Indies and the USA.

In an official press release, the BCCI acknowledged Dravid’s pivotal role in shaping the Indian team and applauded his exceptional professionalism. The decision to extend his contract reflects the board’s confidence in Dravid’s leadership and coaching abilities.

Gautam Gambhir, former India teammate of Dravid, expressed his satisfaction with the announcement. Gambhir had previously advocated for Dravid’s continued role as India’s head coach. He emphasized the importance of stability and continuity, urging the board not to make hasty changes based on isolated results. Gambhir stressed that altering the coaching staff just before the upcoming T20 World Cup would not have been ideal.

Gambhir was quoted saying, “It is fortunate that Rahul has accepted the position, as changing the entire support staff so close to the T20 World Cup would not have been ideal. We hope to maintain our dominance and continue to play great cricket,” as reported by News18 CricketNext.
