Sanju Samson, the Indian cricket sensation, has recently been the target of scrutiny following a series of underwhelming performances. These inconsistent displays have raised eyebrows, especially given the promise he’s shown in the past.

Debate Intensifies Over Samson’s Recent Dips in Form

Given the absence of stalwarts like KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, and Rishabh Pant, Samson had the spotlight in the recent limited-overs series. Unfortunately, he couldn’t rise to the occasion.

With just 60 runs over two innings in the ODI series against the West Indies, and a lukewarm T20I series where he managed only 32 runs in five matches, questions arose about his position and role in the team.

Ex-Indian cricketer, Abhishek Nayar, chimed in on the matter. He believes the team’s strategy with Samson might be the underlying issue. On JioCinema, Nayar shared, “Sanju is at his best when he bats at No. 3. That’s where he thrives. If that’s not the plan, perhaps it’s best to rethink his inclusion.”

A Pitch for Rinku Singh in the Middle Order

Nayar further hinted that Rinku Singh could be a suitable candidate for the middle order if that’s where the team needs strength. Expressing his views, Nayar stated, “For the No. 5 or No. 6 positions, maybe Rinku Singh is the apt choice. But if you’re looking for an aggressive start, then Samson in the top three is the answer. He needs to be used right and given more opportunities to prove himself.”
