During India’s second Group B clash against Nepal in the 2023 Asia Cup on September 4th, Ravindra Jadeja showcased his exceptional bowling prowess by securing three crucial wickets in the match held in Pallekele. Sanjay Manjrekar, a former Indian cricketer, emphasized the vital role that Jadeja is set to play in India’s upcoming ODI World Cup campaign.

Despite his infrequent appearances in ODIs recently, Jadeja is now confirmed as a sure inclusion in the ODI World Cup squad, which is scheduled to be unveiled on Tuesday, September 5th. In the match against Nepal, Jadeja made a significant impact with the ball during the middle overs, limiting Nepal to a total of 178 for 6 in 37.5 overs. He exhibited precision and efficiency in completing his overs, conceding just 35 runs while claiming three crucial wickets. His victims included Bhim Sharki (7), Nepal’s captain Rohit Paudel (5), and Kushal Malla (2).

Speaking on Star Sports, Manjrekar highlighted Jadeja’s consistency in completing his full quota of 10 overs.

“He has a very good chance, almost a certainty, of playing in all of the World Cup matches. India cannot function without him. Although Axar Patel will be available in the reserves, Jadeja will be the first-choice spin-bowling all-rounder. If the pitch favors spin and we face a tough opponent, he will be the one to complete his 10 overs,” Manjrekar affirmed.

Jadeja also achieved a significant milestone by equaling Irfan Pathan’s record for the most wickets by an Indian bowler in the Asia Cup (ODI format), reaching a total of 22 wickets.

Manjrekar further emphasized that comparing Jadeja’s batting prowess to that of Yuvraj Singh would be unjust.

“However, in 2011, we had a batting all-rounder, Yuvraj Singh. It’s unfair to directly compare Jadeja’s batting to Yuvraj’s. So, I view him as a bowling all-rounder with the potential to be a significant asset at the No. 7 or No. 8 position. His ODI career has witnessed a remarkable transformation over the past few years,” he concluded.
