Without mentioning Hasan Raza by name, Wasim Akram indirectly criticized him for his claim that India was receiving specially prepared cricket balls, resulting in more seam and swing during the ICC World Cup 2023. Raza’s comments had ignited a significant controversy and faced backlash from prominent cricketers.

During a television appearance, Akram was questioned about this issue and offered a detailed response to refute the unsubstantiated allegation.

He stated, “It was rather amusing. Let’s not diminish our reputation (Pakistan) in front of the global audience. An official brings a box containing 10 cricket balls to the dressing rooms. Both teams select two balls as their primary and secondary choices. The chosen balls, along with the remainder, are handed over to the match referee, who subsequently provides them to the on-field umpires. The reason Indian bowlers are achieving more swing is because they are putting in extra effort and have mastered the art.”

Shoaib Malik and Misbah-ul-Haq supported his perspective.

Shoaib Malik remarked, “Instead of learning from the techniques of Indian bowlers, we tend to entertain negative suspicions of foul play.”

Misbah-ul-Haq added, “The seam position is clearly visible on television screens when Indian bowlers bowl to the batsmen. They are executing it correctly from their hands.”
