The Texas Super Kings became the third team to qualify for the playoffs. The Texas Super Kings pulled off a sensational chase to secure their place in the playoffs of the inaugural MLC season. The Super Kings chased down a challenging target of 172 with three wickets to spare, thanks to a brilliant batting performance from Milind Kumar and Daniel Sams.

Kumar, who had been struggling for form in recent games, came up with a crucial knock of 52 off 42 balls, while Sams smashed 42 off 18 balls to help the Super Kings get over the line in the crucial encounter.
The San Francisco Unicorns earlier won the toss and elected to bat first. Finn Allen(4) lost his wicket in the very first over to Daniel Sams. Matthew Wade(49) then aimed to set the tone for the innings, but couldn’t find able partners as Stoinis(13) and Shadab(20) struggled to make a significant impact.

Corey Anderson(14) had a tough time finding his rhythm and eventually fell after smashing a huge six.
It was only when Chaitanya Bishnoi came to the crease that the Unicorns found some much-needed momentum. Bishnoi’s 35 off 21 balls and a quickfire cameo from skipper Aaron Finch (19) propelled the Unicorns to a challenging total of 171-6.

Gerald Coetzee on his comeback game was the pick of the bowlers for TSK, taking four wickets for 31 runs, while Sams and Mitchell Santner picked up two wickets each.

Chasing 172 for victory, the Super Kings had a poor start they lost their skipper Faf du Plessis for a duck in the very first over of the chase. Conway(30) provided a solid start in the powerplay but soon got out. The early dismissals of Miller(10) and Santner(7) meant that the Super Kings’ fate seemed to hang in the balance when they were reduced to 92/5 in the 14th over.

Milind Kumar was sticking around with 24 runs off 28 balls but needed a partner. Then came the turning point in the game. Milind Kumar took on leg spinner Shadab Khan, attempting to gain some much-needed momentum. Daniel Sams arrived at the crease and immediately launched an assault as if he had been batting all day on the challenging pitch.

The pair targeted the 15th over, bowled by Stoinis, and plundered 17 runs off it. Finch, in an attempt to break the partnership, turned to Haris Rauf, but Milind Kumar managed to hit a first-ball six, putting tremendous pressure on the bowling side.

The over yielded 16 runs. Daniel Sams then stunned everyone by smashing Shadab for a hat-trick of sixes in the 17th over scoring 21 runs further reducing the margin to 14 runs required off 2 overs. Despite losing both Kumar and Sams, TSK batters chased the score comfortably with 5 balls to spare.

The win was a crucial one for the Super Kings, who now sit in second place in the standings, just behind Seattle Orcas. They joined Orcas and Freedom as the third team that qualified for playoffs.

San Francisco Unicorns still have an outside chance of qualifying but MI New York thanks to their brilliant NRR (1.319) have the edge and are more likely to make it to the crucial knockout stages of the tournament.
